On March 7th<\/sup>, York University\u2019s Ecological Footprint Initiative<\/a> hosted the online launch of the National Footprint and Biocapacity Accounts, 2022 edition. Based on 48 million data points from UN statistics, these accounts provide data for more than 200 countries from 1961 to 2018. They show that humanity\u2019s overshoot is still growing, with ever more countries becoming less resource secure. Yet, there are a few countries that have shifted their trends.<\/p>\n

This is the second year York University\u2019s Ecological Footprint Institute has led the production of the National Footprint and Biocapacity Accounts for the newly established Footprint Data Foundation<\/a> (FoDaFo). The goal of shifting both the stewardship of the accounts to FoDaFo and production of the accounts through York University is to guarantee their neutrality, transparency, and scientific robustness. This will make them ever more trusted, relevant, and reliable input for decision-makers around the world.<\/p>\n

Speakers from the Ecological Footprint Initiative shared highlights from the latest edition, and Severn Cullis-Suzuki, executive director of the David Suzuki Foundation, delivered keynote remarks. Watch the full event recording below.<\/p>\n
